That Hoover Film

I am of two minds on J. Edgar Hoover. As  a libertarian, I cannot help being repelled by his role in the expansion of the surveillance state and his often illegal methods of getting what he wanted. However, the part of me that looks for Reds under the bed (or Al Guardian) every night gives the man some nudging respect. A man devoted to his country’s safety above all else, and much like Joe McCarthy, J. Edgar Hoover exercised the vigilance against communist infiltration of the western institutions that American Presidents often did not. For instance, when the American hero Whittaker Chambers furnished a list of communists in the government, which included some of Roosevelt’s closest aides, FDR himself decided to do nothing. When Hoover informed Roosevelt that the Soviets were running espionage operations out of their embassy in Washington, Roosevelt warned the Soviets that they were being bugged. Is it any wonder Hoover felt the need to go behind the higher authorities to get his vital work done?

There are legitimate arguments to wield against against Hoover the man and Hoover the director of the FBI. For instance, Hoover buried reports of Communist infiltration of the black Civil Rights Movement, and the communist connections to “Dr.” Martin Luther King. However, allegations of cross-dressing and closeted homosexuality are simply nasty fabrications that distract from the real issues. That is why I am angry Clint Eastwood decided to include this tired nonsense into his new biopic film ‘J. Edgar’ and I recommend people simply avoid it. This is coming from someone who has seen the film and happens to like Eastwood’s work. Let me be clear: the rumors about Hoover’s sexual practices are not only baseless, but part of an attempt at character assassination initiated by very, very dark forces, that went viral thanks to a rotten, unscrupulous left. The allegations originate from the ridiculous account of a certain Susan Rosenstiel, a convicted criminal who had previously served time for perjury. Rosenstiel claimed to have seen Hoover at homosexual orgies in a New York hotel, and wearing women’s underwear to boot. Why this woman was present at male homosexual orgies is anyone’s guess. These claims were never substantiated, but the famous Mitrokhin Archive, brought to the West by a KGB defector, indicated that the Soviets worked hard to spread the lies about their bitter opponent. Any person of sound character capable of doing a moment of sound research would quickly realize what a sinister scam this all was. What is worse is that American liberals, those who purport to be tolerant of homosexuality and proud of it, have been so willing to use fabricated and no doubt hurtful stories about a man’s sexuality to undermine and ridicule him. Aren’t these people the least bit ashamed, or able to detect some hypocrisy in their behavior? For shame, the American left.

For shame, Mr. Eastwood.

Obama’s Incredible Smear Machine – Was Cain The Latest Victim?

Some readers may like to view the post I wrote in August about, among other things, the amazing tendency for Barack Obama’s electoral opponents to have their confidential divorce papers leaked to the press and their campaigns ruined. Blair Hull and Jack Ryan might have a new companion in Herman Cain, who has been on the receiving end of highly suspect allegations of sexual harassment. I found the complaints against Cain very unusual, considering that several were initially made anonymously. These drove the media into a frenzy, despite the fact there were no real details about what the harassment was supposed to entail. Instead we were fed impossibly vague stories of a woman who felt Cain had “gotten too close” to her. Another claimed Cain simply made her “feel” he was coming onto her.

Only after a week or so did Sharon Bialek step forward and provide a specific, disturbing account. This woman, by startling coincidence, lived in the same building as David Axelrod, the political consultant best known as Barack Obama’s top adviser as well as his chief strategist in 2008. He may very well be again in 2012. Conservative pundit Ann Coulter has made a big deal out of the fact that Cain has never lived in Chicago despite all the allegations originating from there.  However, it must be said that Bialek claimed the events happened in Washington D.C. when she traveled there for an interview with Cain. Yet strange it is that all the harassment is alleged to have taken place during Cain’s time at the helm of the National Restaurant Association. This is a mere three year period out of his long life and career. Why were these three years so marked by misogyny and lewd behavior, that Cain has never been accused of in the times before or since? The fact that it was Sheila O’ Grady who dug up Herman Cain’s personnel records from the National Restaurant Association says a lot. O’ Grady is an Axelrod confidante and former chief of staff to Chicago’s former mayor Richard M. Daley. She now works for the Illinois Restaurant Association. By all accounts, this girl lives to spin.

ABC reports that Bialek has had nine jobs in seventeen years and has filed for bankruptcy twice. Relatives have referred to her as a ‘gold-digger’. More unusual methods such as voice-analyzing software have been deployed to cast her as untrustworthy.

Another interesting tidbit: it seems no Hollywood types, American liberals, the usual black spokespeople or even folks of the Congressional Black Caucus have helped a brother out by playing the race card in the way so many have done for Barack Obama. A man who is only half-black, after all, and a lot farther from the typical black-American experience than Herman Cain. Is it possible that the Obama crowd feel a black opponent would do their man the most damage?

I have never endorsed Cain for President. I’m not doing so now. Still, I can’t help but like the guy, and these brutal attacks have only improved his standing in my eyes. After all, how could a man with the smile seen in the wonderful ad below be even a little bit pervy?

Given who it’s coming from…

… I’d take it as a compliment, Bibi.

Another Flotilla Farce

I once found living in Ireland somewhat depressing, given the country’s reputation of hostility towards Israel. I later found, however, that the Israel-bashers who dominated the conversation on matters Israel and Palestine were not very representative of the Irish people at all. The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign I discovered to be dominated almost to a man by Sinn Féin, or even more hardline Irish Republicans, and Trotskyites. Folks like these had very little support among the Irish populace (though Sinn Féin has done well after the economic disaster of recent times, as you would expect with populist nationalist types). Indeed, I found many Irish people refreshingly engaged on Middle East matters and with sensible views. However, they often complained of receiving too much hostility if they offered any kind of defense of Israel, and thus would not do it too regularly or loudly.

The latest flotilla provocation to Gaza pretty much proves the point. I believe there were fifteen Irish participants. Seven were connected with Sinn Féin, three were Trotskyites, one was Muslim Brotherhood, another was a former Fianna Fáil parliamentarian (a populist political party ousted from power due to its disastrous economic policies), and apart from Trevor Hogan I’m not sure about the others. Now, these are people I would not put in charge of the trash collection, and most Irish men and women would agree that if these politicians and activists were in power Ireland would look something like Uganda, or slightly worse.

The former Fianna Failure member of parliament, Chris Andrews, I have written about before in relation to his controversial labeling of  Fine Gael’s Alan Shatter as ‘Israel’s puppet in Ireland‘. At the time I was reluctant to label him as something as sinister an an anti-Semite, suggesting it was typical populist Fianna Fáil behaviour. Now I’m not so sure. I recently came across this disturbing image from a constituency leaflet put out by Mr. Andrews:

Yes, all chummy with Mr. Assad of Syria. Andrews is either a sinister individual or startlingly stupid (especially considering all his talk about ‘human rights’). I’m leaning towards the former given his behavior in regards to the the flotilla. You see, the participants claimed to be carrying tens of thousands of euros worth of aid on board. However, when Israeli naval forces boarded the vessel and brought it to the port of Ashdod, intending to bring the aid through the channels permitted by the Israeli government (via road and after Israeli inspection), no humanitarian aid was to be found on the two ships. Essentially, Irish politicians went to provoke Israel, a nuclear power with one of the world’s most powerful militaries, and lied to their own people about the purpose of their mission. I for one find that vile and irresponsible. A part of me would have been happy to see these fauxtilla folks rot in Israeli prisons for a while, but I don’t want the Israeli taxpayer to be compelled to  feed Chris Andrews. So I welcome their safe return and hope that next time they wont forget to bring that aid they promised. Children in Gaza simply cannot be expected to go on living without Trevor Hogan’s signed rugby balls.

UNESCO, and why Israel should just leave it

This fascinating debate shows us that Ron Paul had UNESCO’s number back in 2003, which is another reason for friends of Israel to support him. I don’t know why people are so surprised about this organisation’s tendency towards anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism, including its most recent measures of support for the Palestinians. Undermining national sovereignty has always been UNESCO’s raison d’être. UNESCO advocates population control, a global mandatory school curriculum and steps towards a single world government (an aim shared by Islamists and Cultural Marxists alike). I sincerely hope that opposition towards globalist tools like UNESCO can be a great issue to unite friends of Israel and those people all over the world who oppose international ‘human rights’ bureaucracies that are an affront to freedom. Ignoring, as opposed to constantly placating, these groups is much more in step with the Zionist ethos and would certainly earn Zionism itself more respect.
